As a design student at Kutztown University I synthesized the record store "Young Ones" into a gig poster inspired design. I illustrated scenes of the store and arranged them in a hierarchallayout. In addition to this I conducted interviews with the founders Chris and Cecelia Holt, researched and wrote an article about the venue, and took photographs for reference.
Deliverables: Nine illustrations designed into one vintage gig inspired poster.
Time: One month, October – November 2014
Young Ones is more than just a record store; they're a venue for bands to play in an effort to support local music. They also sell retro video games, band merchandise, and videos. The challenge was to combine the store in it's entirety into one appealing poster. This sought to display what sets Young Ones apart from the other record stores.
I took the time to research the store through employee interviews, photography, and observing local performances. I synthesized the research into portraits and scenes that were illustrated with charcoal on toned tan paper. These illustrations were scanned, cropped and designed into a poster that emphasized the timeless quality of the shopping experience.
